ITV Graduate Scheme

I was invited to take the next stage assessment, and this was even harder. I cannot disclose the content, but the gist of it was, a paragraph on a totally unrelated topic, for example, CMW's also known as Cosmic Microwaves, which took a while for me to pick up what the passage was actually getting at due to a number of unfamiliar terms. Then there is a statement you have to decide whether its true, false or not possible to tell.
A lot harder than it sounds. I found myself clock watching in the last 30 seconds which resulted in me missing question 30. Hopefully, this won't have impacted my results too much.

ITV Graduate Scheme

I got through the Application stage and was invited to take an assessment to see if my values match ITV's - what a hard task! For most questions, there was one answer I definitely wouldn't pick, and the other two were very close!

New Brief

This came through to me the other day, I would love to get involved with it. I am fed up of all the negativity with Scunthorpe as of late, every time I read the Scunthorpe paper online there is crime, crime, and a bit more crime. Yes it isn't at its best at the minute with the high unemployment levels and the high crime levels. But there are some positives (I think) which is why I would like to be involved... There are lots of people from the area who go on to become successful... Sheridan Smith from Gavin and Stacey lives in the area and I have seen her a few times in Tesco. These kinds of successes should be celebrated and thrust into the spotlight to inspire others - particularly young people.

I will be working on this after hand in...

End Of Year Show Proposal

After speaking to Fred about my initial proposal, it is now much clearer what I want for my end of year show. He pointed out that I was wanting to do some high quality prints but why? And I couldn't answer. Why was I trying to move my 72 dpi work into a printed format?

This is the proposal I have handed in:

Business Cards Ordered

Changed the design... AGAIN. I decided I wanted to say more about myself and my personality than my work, my work should speak for itself.

I have 4 different fronts, to give people the chance to pick which one they want, the front simply says Hi. this is so it speaks to the person, and the bright colours are to catch their eye.

Motion Graphics Job Posting

This could be a good opportunity for me to apply for - the only thing that concerns me is the location. But it is good to see what the requirements are.

Graphic Designer Job Posting

ITV Graduate Scheme

I have just applied for the ITV Graduate Scheme, I really hope to get on to this, as when I am no longer a student, I am no longer able to do any more work experience for ITV unless it is work shadowing. Fingers crossed...

Crazy Day

Today has been that crazy I still haven't left my bedroom-

This morning I created my video with a few extras in After Effects for the Creative Pioneers Challenge - I won't be posting that on here! Might put up some stills from the video as this is about me competing for an internship. I first heard about it when working at ITV - I designed and coded an e-shot for it! (Coding has to be the most confusing thing ever!!! Not for my brain.)

Then logged into my emails while rendering - 6 from ITV about Soccer Aid, replied to all 6, then replies to them were coming through. So working on Soccer Aid today - my reward: Going to Old Trafford!!! Winner.

Got to make amendments to the campaign regarding wording! Off I go...

Live Brief: Soccer Aid

I have been asked to help out with Soccer Aid!

Today we had a meeting about the initiatives running up to Soccer Aid e.g. how can ITV really show that this is a worthwhile cause and get involved themselves?

First Day at ITV

Wow just had my first day on work experience!

I was met by Jodie and Clayton in reception who took me to the canteen for a coffee - unlimited Costa Coffee with syrups, and its FREE. Saw Rodney Blackstock from Emmerdale too! Then I went back to the Corporate Responsibility office where I was shown to my desk, my phone and my own ITV email. Clayton and Jodie seem really nice and I look forward to working with them throughout the rest of the week, its a shame I'm only here until Friday I feel at home already!

My first job was long, but I enjoy tidying so once I put my music on I got on with it. It was basically doing an inventory and tidying the stock cupboard, there was about 300 hoodies, and mugs, notebooks, bags etc. as they were showing me everything in there, they were rapidly throwing goodies into a bag for me to take away!

At lunch I saw more Emmerdale people, spoke to Charley Webb without even realising, even when I did I didn't make anything of it - professionalism is important in a place like this.

They were impressed with how organised it was, everything was in size and colour order, all boxes labelled, every section on the shelf labelled... And I was extremely tired! Completely wiped off my feet, was asleep for 9 - so much for doing uni work when I got in!

Manchester Design Symposium

Today, Naomi and Finch went to Manchester Design Symposium for an afternoon of talks from different designers. It was at the Town Hall which is just a magnificent building.

There were talks from Morag Myerscough, Its Nice That, Fontsmith, Adrian Shaughnessy and others, with the GF Smith Paper exhibition showing in another room. The talks were very inspirational and interesting, every talk was different, even if it wasn't a topic I have an interest in, the talks were very engaging.

Plan for the day:

Creative Milkround Day

Today I visited the Creative Milkround, I visited talks by Hallmark, Numiko and Saatchi & Saatchi. They were all really interesting, and the Numiko set some context for my surgery, which I then realised, this was the wrong kind of digital, they are mainly web...

However I did get some really useful feedback, one piece of advice, I will follow very closely, 'Generate some noise - use twitter, get your work on blogs...'
He also said I could send him work and he would give me feedback, which is kind of him. Must follow up.

Alton Towers Job

So, there we have it! I won't be working at Alton Towers, however a final email confirmed that they would be more than happy for me to apply again when I am available - nice note to end on :)

Alton Towers Job

I had a phonecall from Kerry at Alton Towers saying I had been successful with my interview, but she was concerned about my availability. I then had to discuss with Fred my options, in the end we decided I could probably give a day a week to them, like a Friday, which would give me Saturday to travel back. Then I had to factor in it was 4 hours travelling there and 4 hours back - until the open season bus timetable kicked in - and it was incredibly expensive.
It seemed more cons than pros. But it was a huge confidence boost that they were willing to negotiate with me until I finished. I knew 1 day a week would not be enough for such a large company...

Alton Towers Interview

Today was the day of the interview, I was nervous, and had 3 hours sleep due to sore throat, headache, chesty cough...the works! But I didn't let it get the better of me. I had two interviewers, one was Kerry from HR and a guy (Richard?) who was their current Design Executive, but had just recently been promoted.
I talked through my portfolio, they seemed very impressed with the work I had to show, and liked the breadth of my work - especially how I handled the client led brief I did on work experience. I happened to drop in my latest ITV news which seemed to go down well! They liked my ambition and determination.
I left feeling quietly confident, until I saw the next guy, who was a lot older and had probably had a lot longer in the business than me.

Alton Towers Interview Travel

Just using this post as a place to find out travel arrangements:

As the season for Alton Towers is actually closed - travel is incredibly limited! There are 4 buses from Uttoxeter - at the very start of the day, and the very end, my interview is at 2...!

However to get to Uttoxeter, you have to change at Derby. There are 2 buses, one at 9, one at 5!!

To travel from Stoke to Alton Towers is just over an hour. From Leek its much closer but again, barely any bus services...

NIGHTMARE. I hope there is better travel for employees! (Add this to my list of concerns)

I will have to ask my parents nicely...

Alton Towers Application Part 2

As I just finished handing in my dissertation - I had a missed call.

It was HR at Alton Towers inviting me to an interview- on Valentines Day! Very excited...

I now need to get working on some answers to these questions!

Note To Self

Naomi, Hazel, Finch and I went over to Manchester for the Note To Self talk at the Cornerhouse. The evening began with some good food and wine at Pizza Express followed by some interesting talks by a variety of people from the Creative Industries, Bruno Maag delivered a talk I will never forget, what an interesting and inspiring man. Also giving talks were Retrofuzz who had some very high profile web clients such as Lady Gaga and Oasis. Trevor Johnson gave a great talk also - the theme for the evening was passion.

Naomi and I engrossed in the talk:

All prepared I took my business cards with me - and someone from Creative Lynx took one, although he was a little bit drunk!
